Description

Heart Shaped Cookie Cake, made with chocolate chip cookie dough and topped with colorful frosting. Quick, crowd-pleasing dessert for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 23 tablespoons heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Prepare Your Equipment Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Take out a heart-shaped cake pan (9-10 inches across is ideal) and line it with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal. If using a regular baking sheet, prepare to shape your dough by hand. Gather all ingredients and allow butter and eggs to reach room temperature for optimal mixing.
  2. Step 2: Create the Cookie Base In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes. This incorporates air into the mixture, creating a lighter texture in your Heart Shaped Cookie Cake. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
  3. Step 3: Add Dry Ingredients In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to your wet ingredients, mixing on low speed just until combined. Be careful not to overmix at this stage. Fold in the chocolate chips by hand using a rubber spatula, ensuring they distribute evenly throughout the dough.
  4. Step 4: Shape and Bake Press the cookie dough into your prepared heart-shaped pan, creating an even layer. If forming by hand on a baking sheet, mold the dough into a heart shape about ½-inch thick. For a perfectly smooth surface, dampen your fingers slightly when pressing the dough. Bake for 20-25 minutes until the edges are golden brown but the center still looks slightly underdone.
  5. Step 5: Cool and Decorate Allow the cookie cake to cool completely in the pan for at least 1 hour. Once cooled, carefully lift it out using the parchment paper overhang. For the frosting, beat butter until creamy, then gradually add powdered sugar, vanilla, and enough heavy cream to achieve a pipeable consistency. Add food coloring as desired. Transfer frosting to a piping bag fitted with a star tip and pipe decorative borders around the edge of your Heart Shaped Cookie Cake. Add sprinkles or additional toppings before serving.
