Description

Strawberries and Cream French Toast: Indulge in rich vanilla custard-soaked bread topped with fresh strawberries and decadent cream. Perfect for a comforting breakfast treat!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz (226g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 8 slices thick-cut brioche or challah bread (1-inch thick)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup (240ml) whole milk
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter for cooking
  • 2 cups (300g) fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Fresh mint leaves for garnish (optional)
  • Maple syrup for serving

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Prepare the Cream Filling In a medium bowl, combine softened cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla extract. Beat with an electric mixer until smooth and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Set aside. This filling should be soft enough to spread easily but firm enough to stay between the bread slices. If your cream cheese isn’t fully softened, microwave it for 10 seconds to reach the perfect consistency.
  2. Step 2: Prepare the Strawberry Topping In another bowl, combine sliced strawberries, sugar, and lemon juice. Gently stir and let sit at room temperature for at least 15 minutes while you prepare the French toast. The strawberries will release their juices and create a natural syrup that makes every bite of your Strawberries and Cream French Toast burst with flavor.
  3. Step 3: Make the Custard Mixture Whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt in a shallow dish until well combined. The heavy cream adds richness that makes this French toast truly special. Make sure there are no egg streaks remaining in your mixture for the most consistent results.
  4. Step 4: Assemble the Sandwiches Spread about 2 tablespoons of the cream cheese mixture on one side of 4 bread slices. Top with the remaining bread slices to create 4 sandwiches. Press gently to seal. For an extra touch of indulgence, you can add a thin layer of strawberry preserves to complement the fresh strawberries you’ll add later.
  5. Step 5: Soak and Cook Carefully dip each sandwich into the egg mixture, allowing it to soak for about 30 seconds per side. Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium-low heat. Cook two sandwiches at a time for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through. Add more butter as needed for the remaining sandwiches. The centers should be warm and the cream cheese should be slightly melted but not runny.
  6. Step 6: Serve Transfer the Strawberries and Cream French Toast to plates, top generously with the macerated strawberries, and drizzle with maple syrup. Garnish with mint leaves if desired. Serve immediately while still warm for the perfect contrast between warm toast and cool, fresh berries.

Notes

Fresh ingredients will always yield the best flavor results.
